Chuah Thean Teng's Untitled is a wax-relief work skillfully capturing a tender embrace between a mother and child in warm red hues. Inspired by the deep bond between mothers and children, Chuah frequently depicted this universal motif through simple scenes of daily village life, vividly conveying their profound connection. Another recurring motif in his work is the sphere. Guided by principles of balance in Chinese philosophy, Chuah often employed circular compositions to intensify intimacy, evoking a comforting, womb-like atmosphere. Chuah's recognition as a pioneer elevating batik from craft to modern art is evident in his adept use of colour and intricate patterning throughout the background and traditional sarong skirt.
