Indigenous Power (Ancestral Wisdom) brings the work of transnational artist Puppies Puppies (Jade Guanaro Kuriki-Olivo) to Singapore, presented by Kim Association. First shown in Los Angeles in 2022, the exhibition marks a significant opportunity for Singapore audiences to encounter Kuriki-Olivo's deeply personal and politically resonant practice.

Working across installation and performance, Kuriki-Olivo explores individual existence through an autobiographical lens — navigating identity, visibility, mortality and heritage. 

Of Japanese and Puerto Rican (Taíno) descent and based in New York, her practice draws on her transnational background, her experience surviving a life-threatening brain tumour, and her belonging to Indigenous, racialised and trans communities who continue to face historical and ongoing violence. In Indigenous Power (Ancestral Wisdom), installations featuring earth, offerings, stones and natural sounds channel the spiritual and shamanistic traditions of her Taíno island heritage, interweaving everyday objects with relics of personal history to honour her father and those who endure in the face of oppression.

The Singapore presentation was accompanied by Revolt of the Body, a keynote performance at 72-13 by T:>Works, in which Kuriki-Olivo drew on Hijikata Tatsumi's landmark 1968 work to explore Butoh, bodily transition and her Japanese heritage — followed by a discussion moderated by Kim Association Artistic Director Christina Li and T:>Works Artistic Director Dr Ong Keng Sen.
