Old is Gold is the fourth edition of Past Forward, an ongoing collaboration between Bank of Singapore and Art Outreach Singapore, presented at Bank of Singapore Centre Lobby. The series continues Bank of Singapore's commitment to spotlighting the rich heritage of Asian craftsmanship and supporting Singapore's creative community.

The showcase features Singaporean artist and sign painter Charmaine Chen, whose practice draws on over a decade of experience in traditional sign painting and gold-leaf gilding. Through archival references and new works, Old is Gold traces Singapore's disappearing visual language of streets, trades and letterforms — celebrating the enduring appeal of traditional craft in contemporary life and reflecting on the balance between preservation and progress. Chen's hand-painted motifs invite viewers to consider how heritage and beauty are held onto in a world of constant change, and how the past continues to inform new ways of seeing, making and reflecting in the present.

Art Outreach contributed to Old is Gold through artist recommendation and support in realising the presentation, bringing curatorial knowledge and operational experience to the project.
