DESCRIPTION
Off the Wall is a sustainable exhibition series initiated and organised by Art Outreach Singapore, inviting artists to live-paint large-scale murals in Art Outreach's space at Gillman Barracks over two months. The resulting works are photographed in high resolution and made available as limited-edition fine art prints for public purchase, channelling revenue back to the artists and Art Outreach's non-profit programmes.
The second edition, ‘Nourish’, presents works by Charmaine Chen, Lee Wan Xiang and Wu Yanrong, exploring the multifaceted idea of food and nourishment through three distinct artistic perspectives. Over the course of the exhibition, the gallery space transforms into a dynamic canvas as the artists live-paint murals that interpret the theme in diverse and imaginative ways — from the warmth of communal meals and the evocation of home and memory, to food's role as cultural heritage, community glue and a system of interconnected practices that sustain everyday life.
Delving into both the literal and metaphorical meanings of food, ‘Nourish’ celebrates its significance as a source of sustenance, a symbol of identity and a cornerstone of community. Visitors are invited to witness the murals take shape across the two-month period, experiencing the creative process firsthand before the completed works are made available as prints.
By providing artists with a platform for large-scale, site-specific creation alongside an equitable profit-sharing arrangement, Off the Wall reflects Art Outreach's commitment to building sustainable models that empower artists, generate new audiences for contemporary art, and support the organisation's broader non-profit mission over the long term.
