Off the Wall is a sustainable exhibition series initiated and organised by Art Outreach Singapore, launched in 2023 with support from the National Arts Council under the Sector Transformation Fund. The series redefines art collecting by inviting artists to live-paint large-scale murals in Art Outreach's space at Gillman Barracks, with the resulting works photographed in high resolution and made available as limited-edition fine art prints for public purchase — channelling revenue back to the artists and Art Outreach's non-profit programmes.

The inaugural edition, ‘Modern Wisdoms’, was curated by Zarina Muhammad and featured ANTZ, Chris Chai and Lewis Choo, three artists rooted in urban and street art practices, reimagining Chinese folklore, literature and iconography within a contemporary white cube setting. Exploring themes of journeying, reverence, play and transcendence, the exhibition invited audiences to traverse shapeshifting landscapes and celestial planes alongside mythic figures drawn from narratives such as Journey to the West and the legend of Nezha, asking what modern wisdoms these timeless stories might hold.

By providing artists with a platform for large-scale, site-specific creation and an equitable profit-sharing arrangement, Off the Wall establishes a recurring and sustainable revenue stream that supports both artists and Art Outreach's broader programmes. The series reflects Art Outreach's role as an arts intermediary committed to building an inclusive and equitable ecosystem for the local art community — developing innovative models that generate new audiences for contemporary art, empower artists to realise ambitious works, and sustain the organisation's non-profit mission over the long term.
