Launched in early 2023, the ProDev Workshop series is an Art Outreach initiative dedicated to equipping artists, curators and arts workers with practical skills and insights to sustain a career in the arts. Addressing critical gaps not covered by traditional art school curricula in Singapore, the series has quickly become an essential resource for the local arts community.

‘Level Up: Art Installation Workshop’ is a hands-on session designed to equip self-organising artists and curators with the confidence and competence to install their own artworks professionally. Led by independent curator and exhibition-maker John Tung, the workshop covers the basics of art installation — including an introduction to commonly used tools, drilling into different wall materials, and best practices for measuring and hanging artworks across different systems. These skills form a crucial toolkit for practitioners looking to take on a wider range of showcase opportunities independently.

John Tung brings close to a decade of curatorial, editorial and pedagogical experience to the session. Having produced over 50 artwork commissions and site-specific adaptations, from the minute to the monumental, and previously served as co-curator of the Singapore Biennale in 2016 and 2019, Tung is the recipient of the inaugural Tan Boon Hui Curatorial Prize, awarded by Art Outreach in 2023.

The ProDev series reflects Art Outreach's commitment to nurturing practitioners beyond the exhibition context — drawing on its extensive network of artists and specialists to develop hands-on, practitioner-led programming that addresses real gaps in Singapore's arts education landscape and strengthens the local art ecosystem from within.
