The IMPART Symposium 2019 was a public panel dialogue presented by Art Outreach Singapore during Singapore Art Week 2019, held in conjunction with the IMPART Collectors Show and supported by the National Arts Council Singapore, ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore Tourism Board and Lotus Fine Arts Logistics.

Moderated by Tan Boon Hui, Vice President of Global Arts and Cultural Programs and Director of Asia Society Museum, the panel brought together prominent collectors Jim Amberson, Dr. Andreas Teoh, Hady Ang and Mark Goh of The MaGMA Collection to explore the relationship between private collecting and public engagement with art. Against the backdrop of an unprecedented expansion of the art market, the discussion asked what motivates collectors to exhibit their collections, how private collections shape public understandings of contemporary art, and what impacts private collecting might have on art museums today. Looking further ahead, the symposium considered how private collecting might support the developing art scenes of Southeast Asia over the long term, and whether the region might follow the trajectory of American museums built from the legacies of private benefactors.

As organiser of the IMPART Symposium, Art Outreach created a forum that extended the conversation of the Collectors Show beyond the exhibition walls — bringing together collectors, curators and the public in critical dialogue about the role of private patronage in shaping the arts ecosystem. The programme reflects Art Outreach's position as an arts intermediary committed to fostering informed engagement with the arts and building a culture of collecting and advocacy in Singapore.
