DESCRIPTION
The fourth edition of the IMPART Collectors' Show took an unprecedented turn in 2021, moving online for the first time in response to travel and border restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, and in doing so, unlocking a format that revealed more than any physical exhibition could.
Titled Leap of Faith, the edition comprised a series of filmed interviews with six remarkable private collectors from Singapore, Jakarta, India and Switzerland, granting audiences unprecedented access to their homes, offices and collections. The works featured were ones rarely shown in public, either too personal in nature, too logistically challenging to transport, or too meaningfully embedded within the architecture of their owners' private spaces to be adequately presented elsewhere. Seen in situ, each work took on new resonance, offering fascinating insights into each collector's journey, their anecdotes of meeting artists, and their advice for emerging collectors.
Leap of Faith celebrated a class of collectors whose ethos goes beyond acquisition, people who do not merely live with art, but shape their lives and living spaces around it. In turning the constraints of the pandemic into an opportunity for a more intimate and revealing format, the edition expanded what the Collectors' Show could be and who it could reach.
As organiser, Art Outreach demonstrated its capacity to adapt and innovate in the face of disruption, sustaining meaningful platforms for dialogue between collectors, artists and the public, and reinforcing its role as an arts intermediary committed to building a culture of collecting and advocacy for the arts in Singapore and the wider region.
