DESCRIPTION
The IMPART Art Prize 2021 ran from July 2020 to February 2021, recognising emerging practitioners in Singapore's visual arts community during an extraordinarily challenging period shaped by the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The jury, chaired by Tan Boon Hui and comprising Patricia Chen, Catherine David, Honor Harger and Russell Storer, unanimously decided not to award winners in the artist category for this cycle, choosing instead to focus recognition on curatorial practice. Kathleen Ditzig and Eunice Lacaste were named the IMPART Curator Award winners, with three additional curators receiving honourable mentions. The decision reflected both the jury's exacting standards and its commitment to honouring the resilience and rigour of practitioners who continued to advance meaningful curatorial work amid unprecedented disruption to the arts sector.
Kathleen Ditzig and Eunice Lacaste were recognised for their critical contributions to contemporary curatorial practice in Singapore — bringing distinct perspectives and approaches to how art is contextualised, presented and made accessible to audiences.
As organiser of the IMPART Art Prize, Art Outreach continued its mission to identify and nurture emerging talent even in the face of sector-wide uncertainty; demonstrating the organisation's commitment to sustaining platforms for professional recognition and development when they are needed most. The 2021 edition reflects Art Outreach's role as an arts intermediary dedicated to championing the long-term vitality of Singapore's visual arts community and supporting practitioners through every stage of their careers.
