DESCRIPTION
The IMPART Art Prize 2020 recognised four emerging talents from Singapore's visual arts community: artists Genevieve Chua and Faris Nakamura, and joint Merit Achievement Curator Awardees Syaheedah Iskandar and Zulkhairi Zulkiflee. Winners were announced during Singapore Art Week 2020 at the IMPART Awards Gala, with each recipient receiving SGD 20,000 in total funding; comprising SGD 15,000 in support of their practice and SGD 5,000 towards a four-day international exchange in New York City, encompassing visits to the Asia Society Museum, The Whitney and MoMA, alongside the Frieze Art Fair.
Genevieve Chua and Faris Nakamura were recognised for their distinctive contributions to Singapore's contemporary art landscape, while Syaheedah Iskandar and Zulkhairi Zulkiflee were jointly honoured for their curatorial achievements; a recognition of the depth of emerging curatorial talent in Singapore and the IMPART jury's commitment to acknowledging excellence in its many forms.
Open to Singaporean and Permanent Resident visual artists and curators, the IMPART Art Prize 2020 continued Art Outreach's mission to identify and nurture the most promising voices in Singapore's visual arts community. By combining meaningful financial support with high-value professional development and international exposure, the prize enables recipients to deepen their practice and forge connections within the global arts ecosystem. As organiser and founding institution of the prize, Art Outreach reinforces its role as an arts intermediary dedicated to cultivating emerging talent and championing the long-term sustainability of Singapore's visual arts landscape.
