DESCRIPTION

The IMPART Art Prize was established by Art Outreach Singapore to support the professional development of emerging artists and curators in Singapore, providing impactful career-building opportunities while building awareness and appreciation of local artistic talent.

The IMPART Art Prize 2019 recognised three emerging talents from Singapore's visual arts community: artists Yanyun Chen and Priyageetha Dia, and curator Kimberly Shen. Winners were announced on 26 January 2019 at Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre during Singapore Art Week, with each recipient receiving SGD 20,000 in total funding; comprising SGD 15,000 in support of their practice and SGD 5,000 for an international exchange programme in New York City.

Yanyun Chen is known for her charcoal drawings, installations and narrative explorations that probe questions of memory, material and form. Priyageetha Dia is recognised for striking digital and site-specific works, including her widely noted gold-foil staircase installation that transformed everyday architecture into a charged site of reflection. Kimberly Shen was acknowledged for her critical contributions to contemporary curatorial practice, bringing rigorous thinking to bear on how exhibitions are conceived and presented.

Open to emerging talents aged 18 to 35, the IMPART Art Prize 2019 continued Art Outreach's commitment to identifying and nurturing the most promising voices in Singapore's visual arts landscape. By combining financial support with meaningful professional development opportunities, the prize enables recipients to deepen their practice and build the international connections essential to sustaining a career in the arts. As organiser and founding institution of the prize, Art Outreach reinforces its role as an arts intermediary dedicated to cultivating emerging talent, championing plurality within the local art ecosystem, and creating pathways for Singapore's next generation of artists and curators to thrive.
