Launched in early 2023, the ProDev Workshop series is an Art Outreach initiative dedicated to equipping artists, curators and arts workers with practical skills and insights to sustain a career in the arts. Addressing critical gaps not covered by traditional art school curricula in Singapore, the series has quickly become an essential resource for the local arts community.

‘Do the Hustle’ is a candid talk by Singaporean artist duo Chow and Lin, tracing their journey from careers in photojournalism and economic research to establishing a successful practice in the contemporary art world — without existing networks in the scene. Their decade-long project The Poverty Line, which uses statistical, mathematical and computational techniques to address global issues through a typological, photographic approach, was acquired by the Museum of Modern Art, New York as a permanent collection in 2023 — a milestone that speaks to the reach and rigour of their practice.

In this session, Chow and Lin share candidly about the opportunities they pursued to develop their profile as artists, and how they actively sought out and formed new relationships and connections in the art world. The 45-minute talk is followed by an open Q&A, inviting participants to engage directly with the duo on the realities of building an artistic career from the ground up.
