Synapse Intarsia is the tenth and final edition of Art Encounters, presented by Art Outreach Singapore in partnership with the Singapore Tourism Board in Little India from 2 December 2022 to 2 January 2023. The programme concluded its three-year run with an experimental audio-visual installation by AVC, a collective comprising painter Bridget Tay and musician Nazrin Ramlee, that bridges sound and visual art.

AVC's approach distils painting and sound into their fundamental elements (process, response, frequencies and application), before melding and reconstructing them into two interconnected bodies of work. In the first container, an interactive installation uses electronic circuits with sensors to generate audio feedback in response to the light frequencies in the space; as a video projection of a painting shifts and visitors move through the room, the sensors emit unique tonal variations, producing a cacophony of sound that records a singular encounter with the work at one point in time. In the adjacent container, bulbous neon forms spill beyond their canvases and frames into the surrounding space, animated by motion sensors that respond to visitors' movement patterns and provoke new ways of engaging with painting.

Bridget Tay holds an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London, and her practice explores space as a physical entity in relation to an expanded field of painting. Nazrin Ramlee is a multidisciplinary musician and co-founder of Jaringan Records, devoted to pushing electronic sounds through circuitry.

As organiser and presenting institution, Art Outreach commissioned and produced Synapse Intarsia, bringing the Art Encounters programme to a close with an ambitious, experimental work that reflects the organisation's sustained commitment to platforming diverse artistic practices and creating unexpected public encounters with contemporary art across Singapore.
