A Celebration of Singapore and a Tribute to a Creative Legacy
Coinciding with SG60, local photographer and artist AikBeng Chia (also known as ABC) has created a special edition print of his photographic collage series, Singkarpor TKQ. This new iteration draws from familiar local scenes, distinctive landmarks and iconic figures. With humour, candour, and wit, ABC reimagines Singapore’s vibrant streets and diverse communities through an energetic collage.
The work evokes both exuberance and nostalgia, inviting viewers to find beauty in the everyday.
TKQ: A Call for Help and a Gesture of Heart
The title Singkarpor TKQ blends two colloquial expressions. “Tau Ka Qiu”, shortened to TKQ, means “help” in Hokkien, while “Singkarpor” references a Hokkien pronunciation of Singapore. Together, the phrases reflect ABC’s personal style and the spirit of this initiative. At its heart, this is a fundraiser that honours both a city in motion and a promise made between two friends.

In Memory of JunYang Pow
Singkarpor TKQ is also a tribute to the late artist and designer JunYang Pow. ABC and JunYang were former colleagues who reconnected in early 2025, each developing individual projects with Art Outreach. Moved by JunYang’s final wish to support young creatives, ABC created this print as a fundraiser in his memory.
JunYang’s first solo exhibition, Canvas of Memories, was held at Suntec City in January 2025 while he faced end-stage cancer. Proceeds from the sale of his artworks and merchandise were used to establish the JunYang Pow (JYP) Creative Legacy Fund. Administered by Art Outreach, the fund provides up to SGD 3,000 in seed funding to support early-career creatives in developing and presenting work at our gallery, as part of the Hearth programme.

A Shared Tribute
ABC’s collage is a dynamic shuffle of visuals that includes two works by JunYang from his Blue and White Collection. These pieces reimagine the elegance of Chinese porcelain with a playful Singaporean twist. TIE Fighter X Dragon Playground and The All-powerful Tissue are woven into the print, bringing a thoughtful layer of imagination and hope.
The composition features a richly textured portrait of life in Singapore. Cultural icons like the Merlion and Samsui Woman appear alongside eccentric figures such as a smoking Chinese opera singer and oversized depictions of uncles and aunties. Every element reflects the energy, diversity and quirky spirit of Singapore as a place where traditions evolve and communities thrive.
