Inside Out: Drawing On Boxes

Hedwige Jacobs
Curated by Deborah Lim

Group Exhibition

10 – 19 Apr 2026, 11am – 7pm

Opening Reception: 11 Apr, 5 – 7pm

Through simple gestures, Hedwige Jacobs reveals the complex nuances of human connection. Collecting boxes and packaging of all shapes and sizes, she transforms these vessels into micro-worlds, evocative neighborhoods, where communities emerge and interactions unfold.

By breathing new life into materials once meant to be discarded, Jacobs questions systems of value and reveals possibilities within the overlooked and the ordinary. Figures gather, drift and encounter one another across surfaces marked by traces of use. Rather than working towards a fixed outcome, Jacobs embraces an intuitive and unfolding creative process, allowing the associations and intricacies of the packaging to guide her drawing of figures. What was once a container becomes a stage for the choreography of everyday existence.

These hand-drawn landscapes reflect the highs and lows that define our shared experience. Selected drawings are animated, introducing a layer of movement and vitality to already intriguing scenes. Each box signifies a constellation of individual moments forming a collective whole, where difference and unity rest in delicate balance. One could easily linger in the details, tracing small encounters, recognising familiar gestures, and uncovering the shared echoes of our lives.
