Again brings together four works — "Good Luck Paper", "Dice", "Rolling" and "Two" — that explore chance, repetition and the desire to try again.
The works begin with familiar things and actions: buying a lottery ticket, rolling a die, waiting for an outcome, trying once more. Through these simple gestures, chance becomes something we engage with, even though it remains beyond our control.
"Good Luck Paper" repeats a ritual based on numbers that have already won. "Dice" turns the familiar form of the die into something uncertain and unstable. "Rolling" transforms chance into an irregular rhythm of sound, while "Two" brings the act of taking a chance into the gallery through play and participation.
Together, the works consider the blind stubbornness and absurdity of repeating an action, while leaving open what it means to try again. It may be another opportunity, an attempt made against the odds, or simply a return to the same actions, mistakes and uncertainties.
About the Artist(s)
George Wong Yung Choon (b. 1978) is a Singaporean multidisciplinary artist working across photography, books, ceramics, painting, installation and participatory practices. His practice is rooted in observations of everyday life in Singapore, particularly its objects, situations, habits and behaviours.
Wong looks at the familiar until it becomes strange, finding unexpectedness and play in ordinary things. His works often begin with simple ideas or gestures, taking shape through different materials and forms according to the nature of each work.
He holds an MA in Contemporary Art Practice from the Royal College of Art, London, and lives and works in Singapore.
