Nandita Mukand
Summit Alumni
Nandita Mukand (b. 1975) is an artist whose practice spans
sculpture, installation, and painting. Through a considered
juxtaposition of materials, forms, and processes, she explores the
complex interplay between the artificial and natural worlds. Mukand
transforms everyday urban materials, such as medical gauze and
industrial substances, into organic forms that evoke the intricacies of
the natural world, prompting a dialogue between seemingly
disparate realms. In other installations, she has worked with natural
materials such as dried plants, flowers, and seeds, further deepening
her exploration of impermanence and transformation. Her practice
reflects a deep engagement with the rhythms of nature, the
psychological impact of urbanisation, and the delicate tension
between human-made and organic landscapes.
Nandita's work has been showcased at several international venues
including the Singapore Art Museum, National Gallery Singapore, Sovereign Asian Art
Prize Exhibition, Hong Kong and OpenART Biennale, Sweden. She has been awarded artist residencies
by the Fundacio L’Olivar in Spain, the Hawkesbury Regional Gallery, Australia and the Bilpin
International Ground for Creative Initiatives, Australia, all of which all of which have played a pivotal role
in her research into the natural world. Nandita graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Goldsmiths,
College of London and is an alumna of the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta and has a degree
in Electronics Engineering. In 2008, she made a bold transition from a successful corporate career to
pursue her passion for art full-time.
