Madhvi Subrahmanian
Summit Alumni
Madhvi Subrahmanian (b.1962) is a founding member and cocurator
of Indian Ceramics Triennale and is associated with various
international arts organisations such as UNESCO affiliated,
International Academy of Ceramics (Geneva) and Sculpture Society
Singapore. She also serves on the advisory board of Hampi Art Labs.
Madhvi's art practice has been informed by the transitions of her
peripatetic life - the opportunities and challenges of her constant
relocations. She investigates different aspects of her life through her
works, exploring the intersection between personal and collective
memories. The rhythm of repetition is the cornerstone of Madhvi's
practice and her installations are often made up of multiples that
tend to be immersive and experiential.
She has several installations in public spaces. She has been
commissioned to produce an installation titled Birds Eye View for Bangalore’s airport. Her
installation Anthill can also be seen at T1-Mumbai airport. Madhvi's upcoming projects include a public
artwork for a subway station in Singapore, demonstrating her continued engagement with public spaces
and the communities that inhabit them. An interest in performatively engaging her audience has led to
an exploration in participatory works.
Madhvi has been invited to several biennales and triennials, among them are IOTA2021, Perth, Australia,
Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale 2019, Korea, Indian Ceramics Triennale, 2018, Jaipur, India,
China Ceramic Biennale, 2016, Henan Museum, China and Jakarta Ceramic Biennale, 2014, Jakarta,
Indonesia. Her works are in several private collections and in institutions such as Indian Heritage Centre,
Singapore, Fule India Museum, China and Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Centre, Japan.
