Kiwi Chan (b. 1987) is an independent performing artist and
creative producer working in Butoh, experimental theatre, and
site-specific dance. She founded KIWI & ZENZERO STUDIO in
2018 and established the non-profit arts group STAR & DUST
COLLECTIVE in 2021, with a commitment to arts project making.
Since 2012, Butoh and Contact Improvisation have shaped her
exploration of the body’s dilemmas and possibilities. Deeply
influenced by oriental aesthetics, she has developed a visual and
artistic language that informs her theatre-making. Kiwi investigates
the female experience and develops methodologies for
generating bodily expression through research and
contextualisation. Her work combines non-verbal performance,
poetic bodily expression, and a balance of visualisation and
communication. Inspired by the Theatre of Cruelty, she employs a
structural improvisational approach that embraces interdisciplinary
mediums, producing performances that are both rigorous and
evocative.
