17 - 31 January 2026
Gillman Barrcaks
The Last Tree Was a Building is a multi-site public art activation by Singaporean artist ANTZ, presented by Art Outreach Singapore during Singapore Art Week 2026. Spanning rooftops, ledges, and public spaces across Gillman Barracks, the project features monumental inflatable monkeys from ANTZ’s Urban Monkeys series, playful yet watchful figures that invite visitors to look up and reconsider how nature, memory, and the built environment coexist.
Anchored by Field Test, a companion pop-up studio and exhibition, the project offers insight into ANTZ’s creative process through sketches, studies, and new works that reimagine Singapore’s signage culture as sites of humour, disruption, and storytelling. Together, the outdoor interventions and indoor presentation transform Gillman Barracks into a site of reflection, exploration, and encounter.

About the Artist:
ANTZ
Urban Artist | Illustrator | Designer
ANTZ is a Singaporean urban artist whose character-driven practice bridges graffiti, illustration, and visual storytelling, drawing on street culture, Chinese mythology, and contemporary design. A co-founder of the RSCLS collective, he has been a key figure in the regional urban art scene for over a decade, developing a distinctive visual language that blends classical iconography with bold pop sensibilities.
His long-running Urban Monkeys series, featuring expressive simians navigating modern life, has appeared on walls, rooftops, and canvases across Asia, Europe, and North America. Working across murals, sculpture, graphic design, and motion, ANTZ often blurs the boundaries between public intervention and gallery presentation.
ANTZ has been featured in major exhibitions and public programmes internationally, participated in national celebrations such as SG50, SG60, and Singapore Art Week, and created commissions for cultural institutions and global brands. Trained in digital media design, his work has also received national and international recognition in character design and graphic arts.
