Tour Guides (Part-time)

Art Outreach is looking for freelance art tour guides to deliver our popular learning journeys of art in the MRT and other public spaces. Working alongside the Art Outreach team, the freelance guide will lead the facilitation of various art tours for primary schools and community groups.

This learning journey programme engages students with an inquiry into the combined worlds of art and history. As they are guided through selected artworks, students will have opportunities to participate in activities such as dramatisation, games, creative art exercises, and discussions.

Guides will be given full training and provided with the materials needed to deliver the tours.

Main Duties

  • Deliver art appreciation tours for primary schools and community groups on behalf of Art Outreach.
  • Lead discussions for the groups by utilising Art Outreach pedagogy and activities to help spark their curiosity.
  • Receive training and gain knowledge around the content specific to each art trail.
  • Assist staff with evaluations to collect feedback from groups.
  • Assist with the training of other volunteers and staff around the art trails.
  • Work as a team with other instructors and co-workers to provide a safe and exciting learning environment for students, and ensure successful programme implementation and continuous improvement.
  • Build good rapport with students, parents and teachers.

Corporate Responsibilities

  • Understanding and supporting the vision, mission and aims of Art Outreach.
  • Maintaining awareness of your own and others’ Health and Safety, and comply with Art Outreach’s Health and Safety policy.
  • As the role involves working with young people, a Clearance Disclosure and adherence with Art Outreach’s Child Protection Policy is required.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Professional qualifications (minimum of diploma in arts-related field).
  • Relevant pedagogical experience in the arts (at least 2 years’ guiding or teaching experience in schools).
  • Strong oral communication skills.
  • Reliable and punctual, with good attendance.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Ability to work well with different personalities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to problem-solve and be resourceful.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Clearance Requirements

This position requires holder to be register as an instructor with the Ministry of Education (MoE).

Schedule Requirements

  • We anticipate that we will be able to provide approximately 2-4 bookings per month during school term time. Each tour is two hours long.
  • Freelance Tour Guides will agree to commit to minimum number of bookings; however they are not obliged to accept every booking that is offered to them.
